How to Earn a Scholarship to Medical School
The RUSM Scholarship Committee will review the qualifications of each applicant. Award recipients must meet the criteria for admission to RUSM, submit an application for admission, and meet the specific criteria set for each scholarship award. Students may also be required to meet additional requirements.
- Most scholarships are applied toward tuition only; recipients are responsible for all other educational expenses and fees unless otherwise stated. These scholarships have no financial value other than being applied toward RUSM’s tuition.
- Awardees must sign and return the award confirmation and acceptance letter within two weeks of receiving an admittance offer or award(s) may be rescinded.
- Retention of all scholarships and grants requires students to maintain full-time, continuous enrollment status and remain in good standing as defined in RUSM’s Student Handbook – Academic | Academic Standing & Progress. Disciplinary or academic dismissal from the university will result in forfeiture of the balance of any applicable scholarship awards and grants. Withdrawing from the university may result in forfeiture of the balance of any applicable scholarship awards and grants unless otherwise stated.
- Multi -semester scholarships will not be disbursed for any semester the recipient repeats during eligible semesters. A scholarship will be reinstated for the subsequent semester upon promotion for eligible students attending eligible semesters not to exceed the total award amount.
- Multi-semester scholarships during the clinical semesters will be awarded based on overall enrollment for the applicable semester. Any adjustment to the curriculum may require an award adjustment to meet/not exceed the total award amount. Clinical scholarship awards combined with any other Ross University School of Medicine scholarship(s) and or grant(s) may not exceed the cost of any semester’s tuition. Scholarships may need to be adjusted to ensure the amount awarded does not exceed the tuition charged.
- Approved absence students (any semester): An application for approved absences form must be on file. Any remaining balance for the semester being repeated will be applied. Upon promotion to the next semester, a scholarship will be reinstated for any applicable amount and semesters remaining.
- Re-admitted students (any semester): Will not be eligible for RUSM scholarships or grants unless noted within specific criteria. For extenuating circumstances, appeals may be submitted to Scholarships@RossU.edu with supporting documentation to be considered on a case-by-case basis. Reinstated scholarships or grants shall not be applied retroactively to already completed or partially completed semesters. Reinstated scholarships or grants become effective at the start of the next semester following reinstatement.
- Clinical transfer students and graduates: Will not be eligible for RUSM scholarships or grants unless noted within specific criteria.
- Medical Education Readiness Program students advancing to RUSM (MERP Advancers) for the first semester: Are eligible for scholarships “awarded by application”, the MERP Scholar Award, and, if applicable, the HBCU/HSI school partnership benefit, but will not be reviewed for other scholarships unless noted within specific criteria.
- Errors in scholarship eligibility or awards brought to RUSM’s attention by employees or students of RUSM or by other persons will be reviewed. This may include an increase or reduction of scholarship dollars and/or a change in scholarship eligibility.
- Scholarship applications, where required, must be received prior to the deadline to apply date for the applicable semester.
- Award recipients who do not start in the intended semester specified (i.e., deferral request) or do not confirm acceptance of their scholarship award may have their award(s) rescinded.
