**First-time residency attainment rate is the percent of students attaining a 2024-25 residency position out of all graduates or expected graduates in 2023-24 who were active applicants in the 2024 NRMP match or who attained a residency position outside the NRMP match.
RUSM students’ five-year cumulative first-time pass rate for the USMLE® Step 1 exam is 86.8% from 2019-2023.*
*First-time pass rate is the number of students passing the USMLE Step 1 exam on the first attempt divided by the number of students whose first attempt was in 2019-2023. In order to sit for the USMLE Step 1 exam students must successfully complete the Medical Sciences curriculum and earn a satisfactory score on the NBME CBSE exam as listed in the student handbook.

Let us invest in you. Ross Med offers a variety of scholarships* and resources to help aspiring doctors offset the cost of their medical education. Our medical school scholarships fall into two groups: awarded by selection & awarded by application.
*There are a limited number of guaranteed spots available at each site per term, and Ross Med cannot guarantee that all eligible students will be placed at the designated site in their home area. In addition to applying to Ross Med, being accepted, and paying the seat deposit before guaranteed clerkship seats are filled, students must meet all eligibility requirements listed below. Ross Med offers three start dates per year in May, September and January, New seats will become available for each start. An applicant may have the option to choose a later start if spots have been filled. Retention of a guaranteed clerkship seat requires students to successfully complete the medical sciences curriculum and pass the USMLE Step 1 exam.

Accreditation by CAAM-HP is a rigorous, peer review process which examines all aspects of a medical program. The CAAM-HP board, an independent and autonomous body of professionals, only certifies medical schools that are operating at the highest levels of educational standards. RUSM is confident in our students and their ability to successfully transition to the rigorous demands of medical school. We believe in you and your ability to succeed so much so that we’re willing to refund your first-semester tuition if you don’t pass.
New, first-time matriculating MD students who complete semester 1, including final exams, and do not advance to semester 2 because they earned a failing grade in a semester 1 courses/modules required for advancement are eligible for the guarantee. Students eligible for the guarantee receive a reimbursement of tuition based on the following formula: tuition assessed minus institutional scholarships or grants received. Please note, only tuition is included in this guarantee, any fees and other expenses and/or charges are excluded.
While we will continue to deliver our program in person on island in the May 2022 semester, we are excited to announce we are offering a remote option for first-time first-semester students for their first term only* to give them flexibility in learning options to start their medical education. RUSM is committed to providing medical students choosing to start online with the same knowledge and expertise that their classmates in Barbados will receive.
Medical Education Readiness Program (MERP)
MERP is a 15-week online program designed to prepare promising applicants for success in medical school. MERP focuses on strengthening core academic areas with an emphasis on basic sciences. This program focuses on small group learning and study techniques. Students who successfully complete the program matriculate into the next first semester MD class.

Our continuum of student support includes one-on-one coaching, workshops, peer tutoring, United States Medical License Examinations® (USMLE ®) Step exams prep, and transition assistance to Clinical Sciences, graduation, and residency.
